I was shocked to hear that coke and pepsi could have contained high levels of pesticide apparently present in groundwater.This lead me to think how do the citizens in india consume groundwater.Large amounts of pesticides can kill a person.I also find it amusing that cocacola and pepsi complied with international standards but however did not comply with india's standards.I feel it could be due to the following reasons firstly they could have used the contaminated water as one of their ingredients .Secondly the tests in india were inaccurate .Thirdly someone could have accidentally or purposely put in pesticides in the drinks causing high contents of pesticides.

I feel that having a party could either escalate things or make things worse or change things for the better.I feel that if India were to intervene their main purpose should be to prevent more innocent lives from being lost and stop all forms of violence .I also feel that they should also not take sides if not history from 1987 to 1990 will repeat itself.To be a mediator you must firstly be close to both sides and understand their habits and way of thinking.You must never offend any side and try to bridge the gap between both parties.However the mediator might have a high risk of getting attacks from both sides simultaneously if matter is not handed properly.Peace should be the top notion for the intervention.However if both sides are not willing to budge and give in no matter how many mediators are there they will be useless like forcing a donkey to open his mouth to drink the water.Similarly both the government and the LTTEs must have a open heart and mind when they mediate if not everything will be futile.

Violence is widespread and it is even happening in the developing countries including Sri lanka.Sometimes i wonder what really causes violence ? Is it pride ,to get revenge.For Sri lankan government it is mainly to retaliate against the LTTES .For the LTTEs it is to claim north-east a homeland for the Tamil people.However is it worth it to get the result and end up having only a few people living in that place as a result of so many bombings and killings .Children women ,men, the elderly ,many are killed everyday .If a man punches you in the eye ,will you punch him back to retaliate to get back at him or would you make a police report.Similary if what the LTTEs want is solely a land of their own then it should be sensible that it be given to them to stop the violence the terrorism.However even if after getting the land the LTTEs still continue their bombings even after achieving their goals ,i feel they should be severly dealt with.Land or deaths which would you choose?

Teaching is an art as well as a skill.You do not have to be academically inclined to teach ,it is the skill of knowing of how to deliever lessons ,imparting knowledge as well as keeping students focussed and interested in the lesson.All these requires great patience and talent.Some might get into teaching as they say it is a safe and wellpaid job but do they ever see the statisticsof how many teachers who leave.It is either they leave because of another well paid job or because of stress .Many teachers leave because of the latter.Firstly compared to business the wages to be a teacher is puny.It is not easy to be a teacher because you are teaching humans a species that has unpredictable emotions.You have to deal with late homework,unattentive people who talk in class,"kiasu' parents and lots of administrative duties like cca and keying of marks.If you are not able to attain a certain grade in the performance of students you get a bad report but the trouble only begins there you face pressures and stress from parents ,the heads of department and also the principal on why you did not perform.So if you think that teaching is a safe and wellpaid job ,think again!

Personally i have only heard people stealing cards but i have never heard of people cloning cards .As technology is advancing ,it is common for most people to support the idea of cloning.Some deem it as scientific experiment ,while others view it as a violation of rights and playing God .For me my stand is with the latter.By cloning something or someone makes the uniqueness of that item to disappear.Through the cloning of dolly we can see that she is normal however without the constant medical observations i believe dolly would not even have survived.By cloning cards is like using the money of others to satisfy your desires and is unethical.This does not only cause the trust you placed in others to be lost but also shows that you are dishonest .If cloning was made available to all i believe that there will be more of such crimes.

I agree that singapore is getting richer due to government foresight in heavy investment in education.I agree that family background plays a crucial role in upward educational mobility youth in singapore.If your father earns a higher income he will have a higher ability to provide for his children.He can give his children more material things like handphones and tutors to help aid in children's education to an extent that most of their grades are bought .However this causes children to become pampered spoilit and over reliant on their parents ,they also do not know how to stand on their own two feet.Sometimes these children also take their parents for granted.However educated parents also can teach consistently and inculcate attitudes good for their children to thrive in society in the future as more people prefer quality children they will reproduce less and as their job requires a lot of time they also will have lesser bonding time with their children.As most parents are busy ,many of them do not have the energy and time to understand their spouse leading to more divorces.However competion to keep up will cause our economy to improve as humans are our only resource.

I feel that if you are capable and do not skive in your work even when you go for your maternity leave even if the temporary worker comes he or she will not be a threat to your job as you are more capable than her.However in most circumstances it is otherwise and some always say that it is their loss for not choosing him.Firstly ,the temporary worker could be more capable and hardworkingthan you ,secondly the salary he is getting could be lower than yours,thirdly he bonds well with his colleagues and lastly he could be very good with his words.If your boss promises you that you will still be able to keep your job even after pregnancy i agree that it is safer to get a letter of guarantee to secure your position.The labour laws could also enforce a law to secure the pregnant mother's position for three months after maternity leave to allow enough time for women to be able to find a job.We also cannot blame the temporary worker as he also needs a ricebowl and as economy could be suffering and it is difficult to find jobs.

I know that smoking not only affects the smoker but also the people around him.I would say that it is definitely impossible to enforce the law to ban second-hand smoke.Like defiant youths the more you restrict somone from doing something the more they will want to do it .Firstly,the thrill of smoking excites them,secondly it is addictive ,thirdly it is not as dangerous as drugs and alcohol ,lastly they smoke to relieve stress .Well for me as long as the smoke does not affect me i feel smoking is a choice that people choose for themselves .By imposing the law will be unfair to choose because it will cause us to lose the freedom of their choice .Restrictions will cause more people to be unhappy.However without such restrictions people suffer from the consequences of their actions such as diseases like heart disease and lung cancer . Firstly, i had no idea how the couple could have sexual encounters on a staircase.I also wonder why nobody noticed them when they could have been behaving intimately and knowing that they were underage and did not stop them.I understand that she did not realise she was pregnant because she had irregular periods and her stomach did not swell.However it should have dawned on her that her regular sexual life and her increased weight was the reason for her pregnancy.I also know that they were not a steady couple.I think that the boy wanted a relationship with her as he only wanted sex.the girl should have stopped the relationship and could also have stopped the pregnancy.He did not really love her but in such situations it always takes two to clap.The baby would not only affect her studies but also her family .She would have to provide financial support for her child and as she is still very young ,it would be very difficult for her to cope.If they married the husband could be unfaithful as the reason for their relationship was to have sex.I feel for their parents who would be shamed by their children acts.if they had kept sex for marriage such situations would not occur.Well at least she did not throw the baby into the bin ,it would be killing a life and she would feel remorseful for the rest of her life and at least the boy would be taking responsibility of the baby by helping to look after it.

After reading the article i recall that when i was young my mum read to me an account of one of the survivors.Jews were most affected race inthe Aushwitz.I feel the main reason at that time was that Germans wanted to be the only group with no mixed blood and they would be the leading power in the world.If we look politically this could be the reason.However if we look religiously it would be different .I would see it as a spiritual attack from the devil.It is a known fact the jews are God's chosen people which means God will and has given his favour to the Jews and bless them richly.The devil would attempt to destroy the Jews so as an act to oppose God and therefore will use others to kill the jews.However we can use peaceful methods to ending disputes .We can go to the United nations for help if the problem we are facing is tough.We do not need to resort to violence and killings to resolve problems.The idea of taking lives is scary and what more doing and administering the act.

I feel that it is man's error to err and as long as there is man there will be feelings of prejudice that would always cause history to repeat itself.We get brainwashed by some speakers who would instigate us to discriminate others.In one of my general paper classes i learnt that there is a racist in a corner of everyone's eye.If we do not control it it would lose control and result in mass murders and deaths.However but if we stand there and watch it would not help the situation .It is impossible to enable each one of us to learn lessons of the holocaust however we can try to teach ourselves to control that devil in us into an angel as long as the devil is kept tame we would have prevented evil from triumphing.We can do this by commemorating death ceremonies to help us see that we will be the ones who suffer from the aftermath of discrimination.If we also continue to listen to speakers who claim that by inflicting harm on another person is the best situation we would succumb to this mental temptations and start discriminating others.

I disagree with atticus stand that men are not created equal when they are born.If god gives you a gift such as intelligence you will also usually be lazy .If god causes you to be born rich you may not be happy.All these benefits balance out.However i do not deny that there is always a prejudice in whatever we do .We may like the white for no reason or because we think he is superior.However i also feel that we cannot say that a court is the best measure to sieve out the prejudice.For example, by imprisoning a black for something he did not do or executing someone because of his race ,gender ,religion ,or even nationality are acts of discrimination.Therefore to prevent discrimination i feel that we need lawyers who stand for justice to speak up for us.Once in class i watch a short clip on Ally Mcbeal, she was charged by the judge for wearing short skirt to court even although he had judged and caused her previous client to be restored to his job because there was only one reason that he lost his job and that was due sexual discrimination.Similary,attitus is using this case to enable the world to see that the court judge would be able to execute the correct judgement.

When i first saw the article i thought that such a movie would be fictional and would not have a deeper meaning to it ,however after i read it i felt otherwise.In this movie the govern ment has found a cure for all mutants with extraordinary powesr to become "normal" again.However how can we define normal is it when others have no prejudice of you or by taking a pill that makes you the same as the rest.If we take a pill which enables us to be the same we would lose our God-given identity and uniqueness.The notion of being the same has caused us to look foolish and not accepting what we are .We would not want to be the next michael jackson by going for plastic surgery.However if we are like rogue who absorbs others powers and cannot maintain a physical relationship with anyone else she should take the cure as it would help her and the world welfare.This form of cure is good however if we were to take the cure to change who we are inside although we might be able to change our outer appearance there would be no cure to change what we really are inside.

I am not surprised by the large number of natural disasters now occuring as in the bible it was predicted that during the end times there would be increased numbers as asign from God that the end times are near.I understand from the article out of the six most are going to be struck in america.I am not surprised,because in secondary school i learnt from my geography teacher that america was responsilbe for most of the emissions of greenhouse gases which led to an increase in global warming due to increase in temperatures .America was responsible for such emissions due to many industries and factories that required coal ,oil and many natural resources for their production.America however did not agree to the protocol as it would greatly affect its economic growth.However i feel that now the result of their actions has caused God to punish them through natural disasters .Many might claim that it is due to atmospheric pressures and changes in temperature but such hurricanes only happen now due to these economic activities.If America does not reduce their greenhouse emissions they must be prepared to lose lives ,jobs ,agriculture ,land ,investments and the trust of their people.They could also start educating their people on how to react in such a situation and build refugee camps and signals to caution the people to evacuate the areas.Other countries could also send medical aid like doctors and nurses to help the people there.

I feel in this case it takes two to clap.I agree that it was wrong of her husband to resort to killing , however there could also be many factors that led to the sucide.Firstly,man usually hate their wive to "betray" them by having affair ,he could have felt that his wife was overboard and had no respect for the commitment they had set before marriage,however he did not think that he was the one who violated the contract first.His wife could have that affair out of revenge to make him realise his folly.However if there were some problems that were not resolved in the family or if her husband was not contented with her ,her husband would not have found a mistress.However,the sucide did not only involve his wife ,it also involved his children.If he had hard feelings only towards his wife he would not have wanted to kill his wife as his children were after all his flesh and blood.He could have thought that by killing his whole family it would resolve all disputes and debts he had to pay but however his immediate family would be implicated.He could have thought that by killing his family after their deaths in their final destination they could still be on family again.He could have wanted to kill his family for fear that his wife would get a divorce and his children would go to her mistress and he could not stand the reality of that.

Some say that sex is safe when you have prevention however how safe is it and whether sex goes against the moral behaviour that sex is only for married people.I am not surprised if i knew anyone had sex .There are so many devices that stimulate their actions One such device is the internet or known commonly to teen as friendster .People put their pictures on the internet.Some even put their mature photographs which stimulate perverts from getting attracted to them.They call it social gathering ,making more friends and getting hitched through the internet.Most of my friends and even my cousins get hitched on the internet.This causes me to think they got into a relationship just because of their looks .I wonder if they really like their inner beauty.This not only increases their chance of getting pre-marital sex but also sexually transmitted disease.Some feel that the article is discriminating the male because if an older woman have sexual intercourse with an underage guy it is molest if an older guy does it to a underage guy it is rape. I am amazed by the large number of mobile phones lost in a year. There were between 17000 and 22000 phones lost and 5000 phones stolen.The total amount of money lost for phones is about 5.4 million.Singaporeans are getting more and more irresponsible and careless.
In my opinion , if they had "guarded" their handphones properly ,it would not have been lost or stolen . Phones that were lost or stolen that were not redeemed,this showed how much the value of the phone is to singaporeans. As more singaporeans earn a higher income ,they always have the "if I lose my handphone ,i can buy another one ,anyway it is so cheap ."attitude. They do not mind buying another phone.
I feel that it is not the buying the phone that is crucial ,if you buy another phone and lose it again ,would you buy another phone again?It is clearly you have not learnt your lesson on how to safeguard your things. I feel that singaporeans must treasure their phone no matter how cheap the phone maybe.If they cannot do such a simple task and always take everything from granted ,how can we expect them to do great things in the future.
In conclusion, singaporeans should learn to safeguard their belongings by either strapping their phone around their waist or hanging it around their neck.

I admire the printing company for hiring older workers . They give them less phyiscally demanding jobs or fewer responsibilities.Older workers have more experience and are more effective. Although they have some disadvantages they still have legs and hands to do work. The printing company had larger font sizes, this will help older workers who usually have eye problems not commit mistakes and see clearly. The company took pains to help the older workers. The printing company even passed their resumes to those not employed to labour unions or job agencies, they are not selfish and think for the welfare of the elderly and I admire them for that. They even have health programmes to ensure the elderly is healthy and fit, this in turn will allow the elderly to function better and be more efficient in their work, creating more revenue for the company.

I agree jc is a stepping stone to university but if we have to go through so much pain and hardship to go to university ,why not choose something easier at a easier.Jc or what people know it as part of the singapore system is just like a rat race. They only focus on the academics and not the effort you put in.
The reasons why I agree with the statement that Jc is a tough climb is as follows.
Firstly , now in 2006 , instead of taking five subjects you have to take 7 subjects.. In secondary school i took 7 subjects and i could not cope .If i were to go jc i would suffer.Besides they also have to take new additional subjects like knowledge and inquiry and project work.I feel that project work is a waste of time because it is usually 2 person doing the job instead of four . One of my cousins who went to jc said she could not practically answer any question.
Secondly , although the syllabus has been "sized down" by as much as twenty per cent ,which means they only cover eighty per cent of the subject,which means the student will learn lesser for that subject.Comparing with those who take five subject last year and those taking seven subjects now ,those learning five subjects learn 500 per cent whereas those learning seven subjects learn 560 per cent of the content which is 60 per cent more than the contents added together for the original system and it will take alot of time and effort.
In conclusion , I feel that jc is a tough climb although it prepares students well for university and the job market , however the reasons above are enough to support the fact that Jc is a tough climb.

I feel that Japan should allow women to succeed the throne afterall in this modern society men and women are of a equal status.Not only having a women successor will bring in new and fresh ideas it might also improve the economic growth of a country.I really pity Aiko's mother ,she has to try so hard to produce a male heir . I feel that every chid regardless of gender is a blessing from God .Some couples cannot even produce a child.Moreover Aiko has the royal blood and both her parents are Japanese and has fulfilled the basic criteria to be a successor for a country.Aiko is still very young and she is already suffering from so much tension, pressure and external and internal stress from the media.
I also disagree with them for proposing to bring back concubines to breed male desendants. This is an immoral behaviour and will create alot of jealousy ,discord and disharmony .Jealousy is more dangerous and terrible than anger and they might resort to despicable methods to gain favour or ensure their son will be the heir.The action of bringing in women to sleep with the emperor is as good as committing adultery and being unfaithful to their spouse.This is as good as a chinese saying that" the emperor like a sow trying to produce piglets"It is practically inhuman. We are not animals.
However , if a woman were to succeed , it could corrupt the imperial line which has been the supreme symbol of Japanes national and ethnic identity .The Japanese would have no respect for her and Japan would lose her rich culture.

I was appalled at first when i read that Yong Kim Shui wanted to go to jail.I thought he was very foolish and did not know the circumstances. When he is released ,he will have a bad report that will follow him through the rest of his life. No matter how good he is in his academics ,being in jail will be his greatest deterrence if he wants to apply for a job.Employers nowadays only accept a degree and a clean record.If i were him ,i think i would choose RTC(Reformative Training Centre).At least when i am there i do not have to endure the pain of six strokes of the cane and would not have to bear the humiliation and despise by my friends ,relatives and strangers.I feel that if i were him i would not go to jail because i would have a higher chance of achieving a better future.
However , if i go to RTC, i would have to spend more time on top of the sentence i was given and would not be able to finish my education earlier.I feel that going to jail will be a fruitful experience and the harsh conditions will mould him into a better and righteous person.

hi re response to snowstorm I agree that the people should not make such a din over the snowstorm afterall it is God who decides whether to let the snowstorm snow. I am not saying i am blaming God i mean leave the poor people alone they have no choice.However, the airport should have made arrangement to change flights or usher them to another place.i feel sorry for those going there to work they could have already made a lot of money if there was no snowstorm . It could have given a bad impresssion on the client if they are late and they will lose lots of business.Tourist going there for a holiday might not go there again as it takes up so much of their time. What a pity the snowstorm brings.Well at least those people who have never seen a snowstorm or have not seen snow would love it for example people like me. Of course if i was there i would have enjoyed it.For the locals and citizens living there i do not think they would be happy because their airport system is inefficient.

Firstly,I agree that a later start to school day is good as students are able to get enough rest and concentrate in class.Parents are able to take their children to school and go to work after that . The timing for both parent and child is just right.
However ,I feel that an early start is better. We will be more self disciplined .When school starts earlier ,it also ends earlier allowing more time for us to attend other activitiesand broaden our horizon.We can always take an afternoon nap to replace the sleeping hours lost and when we get up we will be more refreshed and productive in what ever we do.
Moreover we cannot always depend on our parents to fetch us to school everyday.We have to be independant.We cannot possibly rely on them to fetch us to work next time.If our jobs expect us to report at 6.30am, we can't possibly tell the boss to push back the time.If we train our pupils now ,when they go to work ,they can adapt very fast.If we always intercede for them and think that we are giving the children the best ,we are actually spoiling them.
I am a student and i can endure waking up so early for 16years and so can the others .We just have to learn and adapt.

I agree that exams are important in reflecting and determining one's ability .However I feel being exam smart is not enough .Sometimes I feel the education system in Singapore is very narrow minded. They have to ensure every student do well in their studies, get a degree and most importantly do the so called "better" subjects like science . As a result ,students memorise textbooks , go for extra tuition and they do not love what they do.Isn't an education supposed to be holistic whereby everyone's physical , mental and spiritual needs are well taken care of? Why must we grade everything we do?I feel this grading will make people do subjects where they have no interest in.
Of course ,if these students go out to work ,they will have to face real life situations and they will have to struggle and fight for themselves.Moreover ,there will not be any assesment books or extra tuition to help us .Nobody will be going to spoonfeed us ,telling us the right formula to do well ,we have to discover the right formula for ourselves.
Being talented and how to discover this talent is important but we do not have to do this through examinations. We can do this through projects and through real life experiences for example more hands on work.
I am sure all of us have studied about frogs ,spiders ,mosquitoes but we have never seen the process of this insects developing from a young to a adult.Talent is something we all have . If we stick to the rigid regulation of examination and not being talent smart ,we would have lost the essence of education.

In response to being reunited after 40 years

Although I have heard a lot about children who were put for adoption and after they have grown up reunite with their biological parents , I have never really read an article about it.I really admire Madam Mak for having the courage after 40 years to try to find her biological mother.I cannot imagine the questions going through her mind at that time when she knew she was adopted.She must have felt so confused.I also admire her for not blaming her mother for choosing her out of the other children, to send her for adoption.Of course , her biological mother must have really missed her when she gave her away . After all ,Madam Mak is her flesh and blood.I am happy that they have reunited after going through so much pain to get into contact with each other.
